Gates Carbon Drive Eco Tension Tester

Gates Carbon Drive Eco Tension Tester

The Universal Transmissions Eco Tension Tester is a low cost tester with separate ruler for measuring and checking the tension of Gates belts. Correct belt tension is essential for optimum functioning of the belt drive so that the belt neither skips nor runs too heavily, thus avoiding increased wear. Common tension adjustment systems include inclined or vertical dropouts, horizontally sliding dropouts (not recommended by Gates) and eccentric bottom brackets.

Specifications:

Function:
Measures belt tension
Type:
gauge, special tool
Compatibility:
Gates Carbon Drive System

Instructions:

  • Hang the measuring rod on the belt and place the ruler on both sprockets.
  • Check the tension: red means increase the tension, yellow means decrease the tension, green means the tension is OK.
  • During tension adjustment, you must maintain the correct alignment of the belt.
  • Turn the crank a quarter turn and measure again.
  • Repeat the measurement with subsequent crank rotation several times, as the tension level can be different at different points on the belt.

Tension recommendations for Gates Carbon Drive are as follows:

  • Off-road and urban - soft and even pedalling style: 40-60 Hz (35-45 lbs)
  • Off-road and urban - strong and hard pedalling style: 60-75 Hz (45-53 lbs)
